Hendricken announces athletic HOF inductees


Six new members will be inducted into the Bishop Hendricken Athletic Hall of Fame later this month.

On Oct. 27, Mike Creedon, Brian Crudden, Gerry Habershaw, David Kenney, Jr., Paul Mangili and Joe Turilli will take their places among Hawks greats.

The ceremony will take place on the Hendricken campus. It begins at 10 a.m. with a mass. Following that, the six alumni will be inducted and lunch will be served. Tickets for the induction are $40 and can be purchased by calling advancement officer Michele King at (401) 738-6971, ext. 131. Advertising opportunities are available in the induction program book.

Creedon, class of 1965, was a standout basketball player and second-team All-State as a senior. He ended up as RIC’s eighth-leading all-time scorer.

Crudden, class of 1971, is a two-time wrestling state champion, was All-State in football and went on to play football at Springfield College.

Habershaw, class of 1983, won five state titles during his time at Hendricken. He was the winning pitcher in a state title baseball game, caught the game-winning touchdown pass in a Super Bowl and led Hendricken to an overtime victory in a state title basketball game. He went on to pitch at Providence College.

Kenney was a long-time coach at Hendricken in baseball, basketball, golf and soccer. He was an assistant coach on the first Hendricken baseball state title team and later served as the Rhode Island director of American Legion baseball. At Stonehill College, he worked as Ray Pepin’s assistant basketball coach.

Mangili, class of 1984, was a three-time All-State swimmer and the first New England swimmer to break two minutes in the 200 individual medley. He was also an All-Pac-10 swimmer while at Arizona State.

Turilli, class of 2001, is a three-time state wrestling champion and a two-time state champion in the pole vault. He moved on to wrestle at Harvard.
