Senior co-captain Michael Ryan captured the 200 and 500-yard freestyles, junior Grant Dator won the 200-yard medley relay and 100-yard breaststroke, and sophomore C.J. Sheldon touched first in the 50 and 100-yard freestyles to lead the Hendricken swim team to an impressive 57-37 win over previously unbeaten Barrington Tuesday at the Bayside YMCA. Ryan and Sheldon also teamed with John Walden and Sean Miranda to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in a meet that featured the two top swim programs in the state. The Hawks have captured the past four titles and 31 overall. Barrington finishing as runner-up each of the past four seasons. “Coming off a tough meet Sunday, I was ecstatic with our performance today,” Coach David Hanson said referring to the annual Read-Watmough Invitational at Roger Williams University that saw the Hawks place second behind Massachusetts powerhouse, Wayland High School. “I’m working them real hard at practice and they are responding,” Hanson added. “If they want me to put something in (at practice), I do. If they don’t like something, I make them swim it anyway.” Hendricken fell behind early with Barrington opening up an early 7-3 lead after the 200-yard Medley Relay. But Ryan and John Walden went 1-2 in the next event, the 200-yard freestyle and Dator and Kevin Sawyer matched the 1-2 finish in the 200-yard individual medley to give the Hawks a lead they would not relinquish. Sheldon followed with a convincing win in the 50-freestyle and Aidan Blanchette (2nd) and Jonathan Smith (3rd) in the 100-butterfly prevented Barrington from cutting into the Hawks’ lead. When Sheldon cruised to a win in the 100-yard freestyle and Ryan and Walden went 1-2 in the 500-freestyle, any remaining suspense was washed away.

Hendricken’s quartet of Blanchette, Paul Fedorenko, Walden and Sheldon captured the 200-freestyle relay and Dator in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 400-free relay team completed the impressive victory. The win pushed the Hawks’ record to 6-0 with just two meets remaining. Hendricken closes out the home schedule Friday February 1st vs. Lincoln at 4 p.m. at McDermott pool.
