Hoxsie PTO raises $8K with 2nd annual Color Fun Run

Posted

The Hoxsie Elementary PTO helped raise over $8,000 with their second annual Color Run on Saturday, where over 100 students from all grades joined to run around the school’s soccer field while parent volunteers and school staff sprayed them with colorful chalk.

The money will be utilized to supplement field trips and buy school supplies for the classrooms, according to PTO president Alyson Miller. Miller said that at least 25 parents volunteered to help out with the event, which took place under a pristine blue sky on Saturday morning.

There was an ice cream truck and DJ to supplement the festivities, which revolved around students from each grade taking turns with a lap or two around the field as parents – and later, other students – spraying bottles filled with a colorful, chalk-like powder onto their white t-shirts. Some tried to dodge the colorful clouds, while others reveled in getting as colorfully dirty as possible.

The event culminated with principal Gary McCoombs being swarmed by a large group of students following the final lap and having what seemed to be the entirety of the remaining colorful dust dumped onto him by smiling students. McCoombs, always a good sport, smiled and tried to cover his mouth while he was coated head to toe – offering a thumbs up and a playful tease of, “Did you guys get me yet?” (Story and photos by Ethan Hartley)

How pathetic! Parents have to volunteer to raise money for school supplies. All part of the NWO.

teachers should buy tissues. They usually ask the parents though.

just like a mechanic has to buy their own tools for the job.
