OUTDOOR ILLUMINATIONS EVENT LIGHTS UP SOUTH COUNTY MUSEUM GROUNDS

Enjoy the beauty of the South County Museum grounds after dark during “Illuminations,” set for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Oct. 20 and 21.

The museum presents a new interactive event that explores the beauty of light and the history of illumination through a series of outdoor exhibits sure to engage and delight young and old alike.

Visitors will explore how innovations in light – from candles to lamps to electricity – changed the social environment in both technical and artistic ways. Whether it was the adoption of electricity in local mills to reduce accidents, the lighting of store windows to attract customers, or draping strings of light to celebrate holidays, form and function worked hand in hand to turn light into something useful, beautiful and fun.

Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for South County Museum members. Children under 12 are free.

South County Museum honors Rhode Island’s rural, village and maritime history. The museum, at 115 Strathmore St., Narragansett, R.I., is located on eight acres with seven exhibit buildings and a living history farm. For more information and a calendar of events, call 401.783.5400 or visit www.southcountymuseum.org.
