It's time to go solar

To the Editor:

For several years I had been thinking about installing solar panels but I was unsure if the time was right in terms of getting the best price. Last summer I read an article in Consumer Reports. The conclusion was that equipment prices had come way down and that state and federal incentives were as good as they were going to get and would soon start to be phased out.

I contacted solar installers, received six quotes, met with sales people and after a long process selected a company to do the job. I have only had my system for a short time but I am very happy with it. I am saving money on electricity and the expectation is that the system will more than pay for itself.

Starting this month and running through Sept. 8, Cranston residents have a new and better way to do solar.

The State and the City of Cranston have partnered on a program called Solarize Cranston which will make the process much easier and offer group discounts. The program offers residents an opportunity to receive State incentives and a 30 percent Federal tax credit while taking advantage of this special pricing.

You can learn more about Solarize Cranston on June 29 at the Cranston Senior Center. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Technical experts and representatives from the City, and the State Office of Energy Resources will be on hand to answer questions about the program. If you can’t make it to the meeting, sign up on the website www.solarizeri.com to take part in the program and receive a free estimate for your home.

If you been thinking about installing solar, the time to do it is now.
