Jacobsen earns silver at U.S. Junior National Championships
Former Toll Gate and current University of Michigan track and field star Courtney Jacobsen finished second in the women's hammer throw at the U.S. Junior National Championships at Horent Stadium in Sacramento, California, on June 23.
With probably the closest competition at the U.S. Junior National Championships this year, Alyssa Wilson of Toms River, New Jersey, finished first with a throw of 56.68 meters (185' 11"), just one centimeter ahead of Jacobsen's silver medal performance of 56.67 meters (185' 11").
Wilson had only one other fair throw, being 51.21 meters (168' 00"), while Jacobsen had a series of throws of 54.76 (179' 08"), 54.99 (180' 05"), 55.13 (180' 10") and 54.13 meters (177' 07").
With her silver medal winning performance, Jacobsen secured her first-ever U.S. National Team selection. The USATF Junior Track & Field Championships serve as the selection meet for the 2017 Pan American Junior Championships. The Championships will be held on July 21-23, in Trujillo, Peru. Forty-four nations from North, Central and South America and the Caribbean compete in this meet that is held every two years.
