James Morris Thatcher, 93, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2016.

Jim was born in Cranston, RI the son of the late Harold and Mary (Young) Thatcher. He was a graduate of the YMCA Institute and attained his B.S. from the Rhode Island School of Design. He honorably served his country in the Army Airforce during World War II as an airplane mechanic. During his time in the service, he received the American Service Medal, the European, African, Middle Eastern Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. Jim was part of the 15th Air Force 483rd Heavy Bombardment Group, which received two Distinguished Unit Citations. Jim was in the 816th squadron. Jim was a member of the Masons for 67 years and was a Past Master of the Harmony lodge, RI. and recently a member of the Marine lodge in Falmouth, MA. He was a member of the Knights Templar and a Shriner. A Design Draftsman for many years in Rhode Island, his employment included Grinnell, Sealol and the Neptune Benson companies.

He had tremendous inner strength and steadfast integrity. Jim was genuinely considerate and quietly charitable by nature, an example for all. Jim’s passion was gardening, feeding the birds, chasing the squirrels, drawing, reading, writing, and mathematical challenges.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, E. Lemoyne Palmer Thatcher; daughters, Carolyn (Loranzo) Whitfield, Evelyn (Richard) Tatro, Barbara (Scott) Anderson; seven grandchildren; and 4 ½ great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service which will be held on Thursday, December 29th at 12 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Falmouth, 68 Main Street, Falmouth, MA.
