Job Lot steps up to help Project Undercover, Bradley Hospital

Posted

Ocean State Job Lot is known for providing consumers with great deals on closeout merchandise. However, an integral part of OSJL’s core values includes being a good neighbor and contributing member of the community.

Following a recent meeting at Bradley Hospital in East Providence, OSJL principal owner and CEO Marc Perlman saw an opportunity to bring community organizations together to help Bradley fulfill items on its wish list for the hospital’s adolescent patients: snuggly stuffed animals and warm underwear and socks.

OSJL provided 24 oversized stuffed animals including teddy bears, monkeys, pigs and puppies to provide Bradley’s young patients with relief and comfort. Patients are able to enjoy the animals while in the hospital and then take their new friends home when discharged. Perlman also contacted Richard Fleischer, President of Project Undercover, to fulfill their largest need: clothing.

“When the folks at Bradley told me how frequently they needed new socks and underwear, I immediately called my friend Richard Fleischer of Project Undercover because I knew his organization could help,” Perlman said.

OSJL is a long-time supporter and donor to Project Undercover, a Rhode Island organization specifically devoted to making sure young children have the diapers, wipes, socks and underwear they need. “We have a tremendous relationship with Marc and Ocean State Job Lot and though I had some basic knowledge of the services provided by Bradley, I was unaware of the scope of their mission,” Fleischer, President of Project Undercover said. “We were very happy to join in and help.”

Project Undercover donated 1,500 pairs of socks to Bradley, and is in the process of locating underwear to meet its needs. “I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Ocean State Job Lot for its kindness and generosity. The company’s donation of a truckload of plush toys surely helped raise the spirits of the children and adolescents Bradley Hospital serves. Ocean State Job Lot’s efforts in connecting us with Project Undercover who graciously donated nine cases of socks to patients is also much appreciated. Community support like this strengthens Bradley Hospital’s commitment to providing the highest quality mental health care services each day to hundreds of children, teens and their families,” said Dan Wall, president, Bradley Hospital.

“There are many people out there who are willing to help, and there are so many organizations that are in need,” Perlman said. “We take great pleasure in helping facilitate partnerships and hoping to match people together, like with connecting Richard Fleischer and Bradley Hospital. All they needed was us acting as the catalyst to bring them together.”
