John Hancock employees support homeless at Harrington Hall

Employees at the Warwick-based John Hancock Financial Network – Independence Financial Partners joined in a friendly competition to collect hundreds of new men’s socks, gloves, gift cards, chocolate and toiletries for those currently experiencing homelessness in Rhode Island.

The donation was delivered to the House of Hope for those staying at the Harrington Hall Shelter in Cranston. Harrington Hall is the state’s largest emergency shelter, providing year-round shelter for 80 to 100 homeless men each night. Split into four teams, the staff received donations from friends, family members and John Hancock firm advisors and owners.

“We are concerned about the impact the lagging economy has had on our community,” said Richard P. Beaulieu, CLU, ChFC, co-managing partner of Independence Financial Partners. “We’re happy to help the House of Hope CDC, and particularly the men at Harrington Hall.”

The donations come at a good time as the state’s homeless shelter system is overwhelmed with a growing need from those seeking shelter this winter.

“We appreciate John Hancock Financial Network stepping up to the plate and helping out,” said Jean Johnson, executive director of the House of Hope.
