John W. Moran, 94, of Warwick died Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Kent Hospital in Warwick. He was the beloved husband of Barbara Ann (Hopkins) Moran.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late John and Laura (Grinley) Moran. John was employed as a Manager at the former First National Stores for forty-five years, retiring in 1985. During World War II, he honorably served in the United States Navy in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater aboard the USS Abbot (DD-629) and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. John was a member of Coventry Pines Country Club, the Friendly Misers Square Dance Club and Union Local 328. He enjoyed traveling and riding his tractor and cutting his neighbor’s lawns.

In addition to his beloved wife, John is survived by his loving children: Sharon Oliveira, William J. Moran, III (Jacqueline), Arthur Moran (Janis), Patrick J. Moran (Gail) and Margaret Billington (Thomas); his step-children: Cathy Lemoi (Alan), Carolyn Grinnell (David), Susan Verrill and James Hopkins (Diana); and a sister: Catherine Prest. John was also a cherish grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He was the step-father of the late Raymond Crowther and the brother of the late Walter Moran, Margaret Kennedy, Laura Kelly, Hope Laabs, Jeannette Lepre and Jessie McClosky.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, January 29, 2018 from 11a.m.-1p.m. in the Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick followed by a Committal with Military Honors at 2 p.m. in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter. www.murphyfuneralhomes.org
