Annual Robertson Christmas party a real treat

Posted

One could question, what’s the role of a guitar-playing unicyclist or a policemen and a firefighter at a kids Christmas party?

They were present Tuesday as the Rotary Club of Warwick held its traditional children’s Christmas party at Robertson School. Naturally, Santa was there, too.

Later than usual, the party came together quickly as the principals of each of the city’s elementary schools were asked to pick two or three students to attend the event. While the principals came up with their lists, Rotary Club members Robert DeGregorio and Lara D’Antuono put the party plan into high gear.

DeGregorio disbursed tags to club members to buy and wrap toys for either a boy or a girl. Arrangements needed to be made with Jay Brunelle – that’s where the guitar-playing unicyclist comes in play – to purchase gift cards so parents could buy coats and winter clothing, arrange for the delivery of pizza and for cupcakes that kids gleefully decorated and with equal enthusiasm devoured.

In no time, Brunelle had the kids singing and even performing solos. He followed up with juggling and, as mentioned, playing the guitar while precariously perched on a unicycle. But by no means was he the sole entertainer. Community police officer Dan Maggiacomo explained all the items attached to his belt – the handcuffs were a big attraction – to the fascination of the children who swarmed around him. The kids also made a tour of a fire engine parking in the schoolyard.

Mayor Scott Avedisian stopped by, although he wasn’t quite as prepared as Steve Hinger and other Rotarians. Hinger came equipped with screwdrivers to help assemble many of the toys Santa would be handing out. There were plenty of extra batteries, too.

I was at the Oakland Beach School Santa Claus event last week. Add my name to the Lea Massey fan club. She knew every word of every song and she wasn't shy about singing at the top of her lungs. She is a born leader. (Mayor 2037?)

Big, big credit for the success of the event, which had "Santa" giving out presents to about a hundred neighborhood children, goes the Warwick Lions and especially Donna Travis who annually dedicates hundreds of hours of her time.

    Merry Christmas Lea Massey.

Merry Christmas Donna and Bill Travis.

    Merry Christmas everyone.

This article is about a Christmas celebration at Robertson School, but the fake "mayor" can not resist using it to talk about himself or pandering to admitted campaign finance law violator Donna Travis.

And he again shows his failure to understand basic facts: There will not be a mayoral election in 2037.

The best Christmas gift the fake "mayor" can give the city is his silence, but it is a certainty that he will continue to humiliate himself with his future comments.
