The COVID-19 virus has postponed another big event in Warwick. The 40th annual Ocean State Grand National karate championship, hosted at the Crowne Plaza, has been bumped from April to July. Don Rodrigues, of Don Rodrigues Karate Academy, hosts the national event each year along with his wife, Christine. The event was originally scheduled for April 3-5, but is now slotted for July 17-19, still at the Crowne Plaza. Rodrigues said it is in the best interest of everyone’s health to push the event back.

“We want to make sure everyone is safe,” he said.

Rodrigues said over 450 room nights at the hotel were booked for the event and expects that those dates can be exchanged for the July weekend with no additional cost. He also said he believes 99 percent of those flying in should be able to exchange their tickets for the later date.
