Karen Silva-Sabitoni, Ed.D, CHE, professor and department chair at Johnson & Wales University of Graduate Business Programs, was inducted into the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau 2019 Hall of Fame.
Silva will be recognized for her contributions to the PWCVB and the hospitality community. Since 2007, Silva has served as the governor’s appointee to the PWCVB’s Executive Board.
Silva-Sabitoni was honored at the organization’s annual meeting to be held at the Rhode Island Convention Center on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
“Karen has helped thousands of young men and women launch successful careers in the tourism industry,” said Kristen Adamo, PWCVB president and CEO, noting that many JWU graduates have remained in the region thus enhancing the quality of service for the state’s visitors.
Silva-Sabitoni has been with JWU since 1984, serving as a member of the faculty of the College of Hospitality Management and as department chair for the Sports, Entertainment, and Event-Management program and for the International Hotel School. Earlier in her career, she was a curriculum specialist at The Travel Institute and an assistant director of sales for Collette Vacations.
Silva-Sabitoni received a doctorate in education from Boston University, holds a master’s degree in educational administration from Rhode Island College and a bachelor’s degree in English-education from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, and is certified hospitality educator.
She resides in Cranston with her husband, Michael Sabitoni, a member of the faculty and department chair with JWU’s College of Hospitality Management, and their puppy, Casside.
Additional awards to be presented will be Partner of the Year to Providence Performing Arts Center and Rhode Island Sports Champion to Paul Adams, assistant athletic director for Development, Rhode Island College and senior account director, Providence Marriott.
Recognition of Service Excellence awards were given to 25-30 frontline local hospitality employees.
