Kent County Sea Otters shine at Newport pentathlon

In early February, over 250 swimmers competed at the Pentathlon held at the Newport YMCA. Each swimmer participated in five events – butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and individual medley. Final placement was based on cumulative time for all five events.

The Kent County YMCA Sea Otters had a number of swimmers who stood out.

In the 8-and-under division, Jonathan Smith took first and Sean Miranda took third, while William McClellan and Genevieve Cava each took eighth.

Max Miranda and Lauren Salvadore each captured first place in the 11-12-year-old division, while Audrey Brecher took fourth and Julia Tetreault took eighth.

Stanley Chan led the 13-14-year-old division with a fourth-place finish, Ian MacDonald came in sixth and Kaylee Lubeck was seventh.

In the 15-18-year-old division, Christopher Murphy finished second, Will Bailer was fourth, Katie Evans was fifth and Tara Hart was sixth.

The team is now preparing for South East New England YMCA championships, which will be held March 1-3. In addition, all qualifying swimmers will compete at Harvard in late March/early April for YMCA New England championships.
