Kids, Cops & Christmas campaign a success

A record number of families are expected to benefit from this year’s Kids, Cops and Christmas campaign, which generated thousands of dollars’ worth of toys and gift cards for children of all ages.

“We are tremendously grateful for the outpouring of support we received this year from individual donors, local businesses and our corporate sponsors,” said Colonel Ann C. Assumpico, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety. “With your help, we will help make sure every child in Rhode Island has gifts to open on Christmas morning.”

Colonel James J. Mendonca, Chief of the Central Falls Police Department and President of the Rhode Island Police Chiefs’ Association, noted, “The holiday season can be joyous, yet it can also be an extremely difficult time of year financially. Kids, Cops and Christmas, now in its 11th year, is a way that members of law enforcement and the business community can unite in a common goal to make Christmas a little merrier and brighter than it might have been for many a child and family if not for the generosity and devotion of all those involved.”

Colonel Assumpico was joined by Colonel Mendonca and other local, state and federal law enforcement officials at a recent news conference at the Ella Risk Elementary School in Central Falls, to talk about this year’s campaign and to distribute some of the toys to some very excited children at the school.

The toys and gift cards will be given to the following agencies for distribution to families: Crossroads Rhode Island; Family Service of Rhode Island; Children’s Friend; Project Night Vision; Hispanic Ministerial Association of Rhode Island; Multi-Service Center for All; the Mount Hope Neighborhood Association; the Center for Southeast Asians; the African Alliance; and the Chad Brown Alumni Association, as well as additional agencies that serve families throughout the community.
