The CCRI Knights men’s basketball team headed to Haverhill, MA to face off with the Northern Essex Community College Knights on Tuesday evening. CCRI had six members hit double-digit scoring and ran away with a 120-76 victory. The win improves CCRI’s season record to 7-2 overall and 6-0 in Region XXI play.

After over a week off for Thanksgiving, CCRI came back ready to continue its winning ways. The opponents of the day, Northern Essex have struggled lately and looked to rebound the early part of their season.

CCRI came out hot and took an early lead. From the start, three-point shooting opened up the court for the CCRI Knights and Northern Essex had no answer. Freshman Mikey Gamble (Hartford) led the early onslaught with 19 points from the floor in the first half, making five three-pointers. Freshman Mitchel Noresca (East Providence) enjoyed success low near the basket as he scored eight first-half points and aided CCRI into a 51-36 halftime lead.

The second half scoring opened up and CCRI’s offense began to explode. Sophomore sharpshooter Dylan Durante (Johnston) drained four second-half threes and led CCRI as they scored 20 three-pointers and shot 58.8 percent as a team from three-point land.

Northern Essex struggled to slow the offensive powerhouse that CCRI exhibited. Focusing on one or two players allowed CCRI to keep the ball moving and share the wealth as 10 members of the squad scored and six hit double figure scoring. CCRI amassed a season high 31 assists as well with just eight turnovers showing great ball movement efficiency. At the final buzzer, CCRI were victorious by a margin of 120-76.

CCRI high powered offense was led by Gamble as he scored a game high 23 points, shooting 5-8 from beyond the arc and adding 10 rebounds, six assists and one steal to register his first collegiate double-double. Durante enjoyed another fantastic night of perimeter shooting as he went 6-9 from three-point territory, scoring 20 points with eight rebounds, two assists and one steal. Freshman Reece Bullock (Coventry) recorded a career-high 16 points going 4-5 from deep territory and added six rebounds, two steals and one assist. Mitchel Noresca registered his third double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds whilst adding two blocks and one steal. Sophomore co-captain Jeremy Remigio (Providence) tallied 12 points, nine assists, three steals and two rebounds. Freshman Papee Paye (Worcester, MA) came off the bench and supplied a career-high 12 points, seven rebounds and one block.

Head coach Rick Harris commented, “Probably a good matchup for us after a week and a half off. Told the guys to play against themselves, don’t drop your level of play. We really needed a strong effort to prepare ourselves for the major competition we will see this weekend against Genesee and Niagara when we travel to Batavia, NY, should be a great experience for our young guys.”

The CCRI Knights men’s basketball will next be in action on Saturday, December 7th at 7 p.m. as they travel to Batavia, NY to play against the Genesee Community College Cougars as part of the GCC Cougar Holiday Classic. The Knights will play again on Sunday, December 8th at 1 p.m. in the GCC Cougar Holiday Classic as they take on the Niagara County Community College Thunder Wolves.
