Patrolman Ralph Barron is probably best known to Vets students, where he has been a school resource officer for the last seven years. On Monday, however, he got to give John Brown School first graders a tour of headquarters, which, as it turns out, was the last tour of his 30-year Warwick police career. He officially retires this Friday. A Warwick native, Barron graduated from Vets and jokes, “I came back and tried to get my degree.” He joined the force at 23 years old. During his tenure with the department he served as a training officer and worked in detectives. Of all the jobs, he liked patrolman best as it put him where the action was. “You’re there first,” he said. Barron is unsure what he’ll do in retirement. It may include some part-time work. For the time being, “I’ll kick back and relax,” he said.
