Laurence Michael “Larry” McGuirl, 62, of Warwick RI passed away December 2nd at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Providence, RI.

A lifelong resident of Rhode Island, he lived primarily in Warwick and Wakefield and spent his summers with his grandparents and cousins in downeast Maine. Larry graduated from Warwick Veteran’s Memorial High School and enlisted in the US Air Force where he served as an Air Traffic Controller – raising to the rank of Sergeant. He spent most of his time in the service at Loring Air Force Base in Maine. The majority of his professional career was in floral sales, followed by his more recent occupation as a poker dealer at Foxwood Casino. Throughout his life Larry surrounded himself with his favorite books and music, spending many hours reading everything from the classics, to novels, to political satire and listening to live music at establishments like Chan’s in Woonsocket. He acquired a large collection of music. Larry was one of the founding members of the Dog Pound at Dave’s Bar & Grille.

He is survived by his parents: Erma Joy McGuirl of Warwick and Hubert A. McGuirl of Key West Florida and his three sisters: Joy McGuirl-Hadley and husband Richard live in Welaka Florida and Barbara McGuirl-Steinkamp, Kathleen McGuirl and his niece and nephew Keri and Patrick Steinkamp are all from Warwick.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, December 6th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Avenue, Warwick, followed by an internment Friday, December 7th at 10 a.m. at the Rhode Island Veteran’s Cemetery in Exeter where he will receive military honors.
