The Legislative Leap, a fundraising event where state legislators and their guest will jump out of an airplane to raise money for the Rhode Island Military Family Relief Fund, has been scheduled for Sunday, July 30, at 10 a.m.

Rep. James N. McLaughlin (D-Dist. 57, Cumberland, Central Falls) coordinated the third annual charitable event to raise money for veterans’ relief.

Checks made payable to Rhode Island Military Family Relief Fund may be sent to 645 New London Ave., Cranston, RI 02920.

“Giving a little extra help to veterans is an issue that’s near and dear to my heart,” said Representative McLaughlin, a U.S. Army veteran who currently serves on the House Veterans Affairs Committee. “It’s very heartwarming and encouraging to see how many people have already come forward, pledging to donate to this worthwhile cause.”

To honor all five branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, each jumper is encouraged to wear a t-shirt representing one of the five armed service branches including the Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Navy.

Marc Tripari, owner of Skydive Newport said his company would donate $50 per jumper (each jumper will pay a $230 jump fee) to the Rhode Island Military Family Relief Fund, which was created by an act of the General Assembly and is overseen by the adjutant general.

“Skydive Newport is proud to partner with the Rhode Island House of Representatives to be a part of this meaningful charity, which our company supports wholeheartedly,” said Tripari.

Members of the Army National Guard and Reserves, friends and family will be on hand to cheer the legislators as they descend from the sky. The public is invited to attend to witness the jump, which will take place on Sunday, July 30 at 10 a.m. at Skydive Newport, 211 Airport Access Road, Middletown.
