Let me get this straight
To the Editor:
On Saturday, Aug. 12, Senator Whitehouse, as well as Congressmen Cicilline and Langevin, decried Mitt Romney’s choice of Rep Paul Ryan for VP, with all three stating that Ryan would “end Medicare as we know it!” Are they kidding?
Let me get this straight; all three already know that “Medicare as we know it” ended with the passage of the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as “Obamacare.” Something all three have blindly supported, yet probably never read the enabling legislation!
President Obama has cut $716 billion from Medicare in order to fund “Obamacare.” This is not a “savings,” as they will probably tell you, but a shift of funding from Medicare to “Obamacare!” The Congressional Budget Office has noted that without “Obamacare,” federal “spending for Medicare would increase by an estimated $716 billion over that 2013–2022 period.” This is $716 billion that has been effectively “cut” from Medicare to fund the president’s Affordable Care Act. Back in 2009, President Obama stated that the Affordable Care Act was “revenue neutral,” meaning it would be paid for not with new taxes, but by “shifting” money from one account in the federal budget to another. President Obama admitted that he cut $700 billion out of Medicare in an interview with Jacob Tapper. Jacob Tapper asked him directly: "One of the concerns about health care and how you pay for it is that one third of the funding comes from cuts to Medicare." President Obama responded: "Right." Why are they being so disingenuous? Why the deceit? Why the distortions? Do they think we are really that naïve as to fall for these misstatements of fact? I can only guess how they will try to “spin” their story if questioned about this ... Don’t buy into their “fantasy” world.
We need to restore honesty and integrity to our Congressional delegation. I am a Democrat, but enough is enough. What ever happened to honest, ethical, straightforward Democrats like John O. Pastore and Claiborne Pell? Cicilline stated he left Providence in great financial condition. Yeah right! Langevin stated he would never vote for a program that allowed taxpayers funding for abortions, yet he did. In my opinion, both have violated the public trust and should be replaced come Sept. 11! Rhode Island needs Democrats in Congress, not “politicians” who “twist the truth” and try to “spin” their actions in order to get elected year after year!
Call Whitehouse, Cicilline and Langevin and ask them why they aren’t telling us the truth.
“We get the government we deserve!”
