Literacy Volunteers of Kent County to hold training sessions

The nonprofit organization Literacy Volunteers of Kent County, Inc. is looking for volunteers for the upcoming fall session.  Anyone who is over 18 that can read and write English fluently and is willing to travel to the Kent County area is welcome to volunteer.

Training sessions are planned on September 21 and October 5, 12 and 19 for three hours and November 16 for two hours. Students come from various backgrounds and skill levels, but all have a desire to better themselves at English. Tutors and students will be paired up and can decide where they want to meet on the training day. For example, training sessions can happen at the local library. There is no cost for training.

Literacy Volunteers provide a set of basic guidelines for tutors.  From there, tutors and students can work together to create a curriculum that matches the needs of the student.

“By giving just a few hours per week, you can help develop a stronger community while helping you neighbors improve their skills,” said Program Director Yuomi Kim. “You’ll have the fulfillment of knowing that you're not only aiding individuals, but also building a stronger, more successful community.”
