The Bishop Hendricken lacrosse team rattled off its fourth win in its last five contests on Saturday afternoon, edging Barrington in overtime on the road, 10-9, to improve to 4-2 in Division I.

After a stalemate for the first four quarters, the Hawks and Eagles played into overtime, where senior captain Kyle Negren would deliver the game-winner for Hendricken.

Junior Griffin O’Farrell paced the Hawks’ offensive attack with a six-point effort of four goals and a pair of assists.

Senior attack Dylan McSparren also kept up his torrid start to the season with a hat trick, giving him a team-high 22 goals through his first six games.

O’Farrell added two assists to his game-winning goal, while Mike Duckworth posted a goal and two assists, as well.

The Hawks, who have only dropped games to unbeaten Moses Brown and one-loss La Salle, will return to action tonight at home against Cumberland (1-5) at 6 p.m.

Pats continue hot start

No team has been better than Pilgrim in Division III boys’ lacrosse thus far.

The Pats improved to an unblemished 5-0 in league play with a 9-6 victory at Rogers on Saturday, outscoring the Vikings, 4-1, in the second half after the two teams went into halftime tied at 5.

Seniors Pat Reilly and Steve Pezzullo were unstoppable once again, as Pezzullo netted a game-high seven goals with an assist and Reilly dished out five assists.

Pezzullo and Reilly are both in the top five in the state in points, with Pezzullo leading in goals and Reilly leading in assists.

The Pats were looking to move to 6-0 at Smithfield (1-3) on Monday night, but results were unavailable at press time. The Pats will also take on Cranston East at Cranston Stadium on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Sutyla takes third at U.S. Challenge Cup

Hendricken junior Colin Sutyla led all Hawks’ golfers at the U.S. Challenge Cup held at Alpine Country Club in Cranston last week, finishing in a tie for third amid a field of over 100 golfers from around New England with a score of plus-5 (149).

The Hawks would go on to take second place as a team, with defending state champion Moses Brown snapping Hendricken’s run of two straight wins at the Challenge Cup.

Quakers’ senior Will Dickson, who has captured the last three RIIL individual championships, paced all golfers with a final score of plus-3 (147).

Sutyla battled his way into the top three with a round of 73 on the final day of play, the best score in the tournament for that second round.

Hendricken seniors Joey Tucker and Sean Irons also played well, earning sixth and 14th, respectively.
