Hawks shut out Cougars for fourth straight win

The Hendricken baseball team has caught fire as of late, winning its fourth straight game via a 4-0 shutout of North Providence on Tuesday afternoon to improve to 9-6 in Division I.

The sophomore pitching duo of Jordan Marot and Kyle Marrapese pitched the Hawks to victory over the Cougars. Marot, a right-hander, got the start on the bump and took a no-hitter into the fifth inning. He would go six scoreless innings, before Marrapese came on to toss a scoreless seventh frame.

Seniors Andrew Flint and Andrew Hopgood and junior Connor Kiely paced the offense with RBIs.

Hendricken was set to host East Providence (8-9) on Wednesday, but results were unavailable at press time.

The Hawks will also get a good test today at home against Lincoln (9-8) at 4 p.m., and they’ll close their regular season at the same place and time on Saturday against Central.

Pilgrim baseball sinks Clippers

After dropping consecutive games to Cranston East and Cranston West, the Pilgrim baseball team (9-8) pushed back above .500 with a 5-2 road victory over Cumberland (9-6) on Tuesday.

Junior catcher Kyle Denis led Pilgrim’s 12-hit barrage with three of his own to go along with two RBIs and one run scored, as the Pats scored in four of the seven innings.

Sophomore right-hander Tyler Parks scattered nine hits in a complete-game effort, allowing just two runs to earn the victory.

Pilgrim concluded its regular season against Toll Gate on Wednesday. Results were unavailable at press time.

Pats sweep Bulldogs

The Pilgrim boys’ volleyball squad (13-3) closed its season strong with a 3-0 sweep of Westerly (2-14) on Monday evening to earn the No. 3 seed and a bye in the first round of the Division II tournament.

Jake O’Donnell dished out 34 assists in addition to two blocks, while Jamal Martey posted 13 kills and four aces and Zach Johnson recorded 10 kills.

The Pats will face East Greenwich in the quarterfinals, but a time and venue for that match have yet to be determined.

Cranston East will be the top seed for the tournament with an undefeated 15-0 record. If Pilgrim makes the championship match, that will be played at Brown University on Saturday, June 3, at 5 p.m.
