Pats defeat Rocky Hill, tie Lincoln School

The Pilgrim field hockey team produced a pair of strong showings last week, defeating Rocky Hill, 1-0, on Thursday, before earning a 1-1 tie against Lincoln School on Friday afternoon.

The Pats pulled off a victory late over Rocky Hill. With under a minute remaining, Pilgrim earned a penalty corner, and Olivia Paquet would finish off a chance in front off a pass from Trinity Reilly for the game-winning goal.

Sara Langevin earned the shutout in goal, stopping all five Rocky Hill shots.

Lindsey Fontes was then outstanding in goal for the Pats on Friday to help her team earn a point against Lincoln School (8-2-2), making 18 saves in the game.

Samantha McConnell scored the lone goal for the Pats in a 1-1 tie, with Mikaila Rastella picking up the assist.

Miranda Zito buried the only goal for Lincoln School as the two teams were knotted at 1 after one half. But, the second half and a 10-minute overtime period wouldn’t resolve the game, either, as both teams settled for a point.

Pilgrim is now in first place in Division II-South at 6-4-2, and it will return to action today when it travels to South Kingstown (6-5) to oppose the Rebels at Curtis Corner Middle School at 3:45 p.m.

Toll Gate powers past Portsmouth

The Titans’ girls’ tennis team traveled to take on the Portsmouth Patriots last Tuesday and secured a convincing, 6-1 victory in Division II-A play.

Ava Sammartino, Maddy Capaldi, Sabrina Dengel and Larissa Anika all posted straight-set wins in their respective singles matches to produce four points for Toll Gate.

The Titans then also got doubles victories from the duos of Mackenzie Blackmer and Larah Rizk and Juliana Glick and Bethany Prendergast. Glick and Prendergast needed three sets to down their opponent.

Portsmouth’s Melanie Williams and Ellie Ramroth won in third doubles to get their team on the board.

The Titans are now 6-8 after following that win with losses to Prout and Ponaganset on Wednesday and Thursday.

Toll Gate was set to travel to Mount Hope on Monday, but results were unavailable at press time.

Pats cruise past Spartans

The Pilgrim boys’ soccer team picked up its seventh league victory of the season on Friday afternoon, powering past winless Scituate, 7-1.

Paulo Frias led the way on the score sheet in the win, totaling four points on a goal and three assists. Danny Peixinho and Jacob Resendes also added two goals apiece, while Ethan Toole had three assists, Sean Blanchard netted a goal and Jamie Maccarone posted one goal and one assist.

The Pats improved their Division III record to 7-1-4 with the win, pushing them into sole possession of third place with 25 points.

Pilgrim will play at Providence Country Day (4-7) this afternoon at 4 p.m.

Hawks, Rams play to 1-1 draw

Hendricken and La Salle traded goals in the first half as the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie in a Division I soccer matchup on Saturday afternoon.

Senior forward Chukwuma Onyejose netted the Hawks’ only goal of the game off an assist from Ian Crowe, while La Salle kept pace with a goal from Andre Vieira.

The Hawks are now 6-2-2 in D-I, while the Rams still haven’t lost with a record of 6-0-3.

Hendricken will be looking to get back in the win column when it hosts Classical (6-3-1) this evening at 6 p.m.
