Love, laughs to honor Marra Saturday night

To honor and celebrate the life of restaurateur Stephen P. Marra, four local organizations have teamed up for an evening of love and laughter at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center (DDC) this Saturday night. Along with the DDC, the Rhode Island Hospitality Association, A&M Productions and 4zero1 Entertainment Group created a comedy event, “Jeff Dunham: Controlled Chaos Comedy Show.” Proceeds will benefit the Stephen P. Marra Memorial Scholarship Fund, which was established in his memory, to assist local students and adult learners to realize their potential in the hospitality industry. The scholarship is awarded to a Rhode Islander continuing their education toward a career in the food service, lodging or tourism industry.

Showtime is 8 p.m., but doors open at 6:30 and the DDC’s restaurant, located on the third level, will be open for a pre-event cocktail or dinner.

Ticket prices are $90 and are limited. Tickets are available in ADVANCE ONLY by calling 331-0700 x7126 or e-mailing kbeauvais@dunkindonutscenter.com. Payments will NOT be accepted at the door. Donations will also be accepted, and checks can be made payable to the Rhode Island Hospitality Education Foundation, specifying the Stephen Marra Fund on the memo line.

In addition to being a beloved restaurateur, Marra was also a former chairman of the Rhode Island Hospitality Association. He owned six local eateries including Cucina, Cucina Twist, Twist on Angel, Twist, Grille On Main, and Waterplace. He is a past recipient of the Rhode Island Hospitality Association’s Man of the Year Award, and a longtime supporter of Meals on Wheels. Through the years, Marra has made many product and monetary donations supporting child and youth development, education, health, arts and community improvement, as well as other causes.
