Mary Angela Gervais
a teacher

Mary Angela (Geoghegan) Gervais, a resident of Warwick since 1969 and a former primary teacher in the Warwick School Department, died January 14, 2012 at home. Mary was the wife of the late J. Donat Gervais.
Mary was born in Providence on March 12, 1933, the seventh and last child of the late John and Alice (O’Connor) Geoghegan. During her marriage, Mary resided in the town of West Warwick. When her husband died in 1969, Mary moved to Warwick to resume her teaching career.
Mary was an active member of her alma maters: Blessed Sacrament School, Class of 1947, Saint Patrick’s High School, Class of 1950, and Rhode Island College of Education, Class of 1954. Following in the footsteps of her mother and four of her siblings, the teaching profession beckoned. Mary taught in seven schools in Warwick. In 1985 Mary was honored for her teaching skills and dedicated service to the children of Warwick. In accepting the title Teacher of the Year 1985, Mary felt she represented the many teachers with whom she had taught over the years.
As a member of the parish of Saint Clement, later to become the parish of SS Rose and Clement, Mary was active in many capacities including lector, Rosary and Altar Guild, choir, CCD coordinator and bereavement ministry. Mary always enjoyed her involvement in parish activities.
Mary leaves behind her son, Peter, his wife, Cynthia, and their twin sons, Andrew and Simon; her son, Paul, his wife Kelli, and their children, Kaitlin, Brittany, Riley and Quinn; and her daughter Judith, her husband, Dr. Robert Luby, and their daughter, Blaise.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Jan. 18 at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Clement Church, 111 Long St., Warwick. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Gough Ave., West Warwick
