Mayor Solomon urges residents to support Small Business Saturday

Mayor Joseph J. Solomon has issued a proclamation declaring this Saturday as Small Business Saturday in the city and is urging residents to support local businesses during this holiday season.

“Small businesses are an important part of the local economy and are in many ways the lifeline of a community,” Solomon said in a release. “From local bakeries and specialty shops to family-owned restaurants and salons, Warwick offers a tremendous variety of retailers from which to choose. I urge our residents both to support our small businesses and to shop local this holiday season.”

Since taking office, Solomon has made it a priority to visit local businesses on a weekly basis as part of his One-on-One business program. “At every single location, I’ve met business owners and employees who take pride in what they do and are committed to providing good services and products to their clients,” he said. “Supporting these companies means supporting our community and, in many cases, our friends and neighbors who work there.”

According to the United States Small Business Administration, there are presently 30.2 million small businesses across the nation, representing 99.7 percent of all businesses within the U.S. They are responsible for 65.9 percent of new net jobs created in the past 17 years.

Further, small businesses employ 47.5 percent of the employees in the private sector in the United States and 90 percent of consumers in the United States say Small Business Saturday has had a positive impact on their community. Sixty-four percent of consumers said the reason they chose to shop and dine at small, independently-owned businesses was to support their community.

As part of Small Business Saturday, the Rhode Island Developmental Disabilities Council, along with the Veterans Business Outreach Center and the Center for Women and Enterprise are hosting Small Business Saturday – Shop RI at the Crowne Plaza from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will feature over 100 small business from Rhode Island selling their goods and services.

Mayor Solomon is much more focused on businesses than his predecessor was. That can only be good for the 80,000 taxpayers that are paying the tab. Dr. Ken Rudman purchased the old Warwick Credit Union building 35 Veterans Memorial Dr. during Avedisians administration. He had his grand opening a 2-minute walk from the Mayors office. Avedisian was a no-show, but he still insisted on putting an "Avedisian-For-Mayor" sign on Dr. Rudmans' lawn. Mayor Solomon has issued a proclamation and that is the "2% inspiration". Warwick desperately needs the "98% perspiration". Warwick desperately needs new businesses. Mayor Solomon is making 2 steps in the right direction. I hope it's the start of many more.

    Merry Christmas everyone.

The two-time election reject is again lying, this time about how political signs are placed -- the owners request them; legitimate candidates do not simply put them where they are not welcome.

Of course, this is the same person who illegally placed his signs on public property, so his opinion on the topic has as much credibility as his opinion on other issues: Zero.

    Dear Readers,

Are you as confused as I am? I complemented Mayor Solomon and even THAT gets attacked by Mark Carruolo, AKA CrickeeRaven. As far as the political sign issue, I was AT Dr. Rudman's grand opening. Avedisian WASN'T. Those are the facts.

That still didn't stop Avedisian from putting a sign on the good doctor's lawn. When I asked, Dr. Rudman said "I didn't have a choice."

Carruolo should pay more attention to doing his job as Head of Economic Development at West Warwick. According to their own website, he has only managed 8 new businesses in THE LAST TWO YEARS!!!

    Merry Christmas everyone.

"Are you as confused as I am?"

No one is as confused and delusional as the two-time election reject, who has offered no reason or proof for his false accusation about who is using this user name.

He has continued with his obsessive and pathetic behavior toward a former city staffer despite being invited to call Mr. Carruolo directly. Had he done so, the two-time election reject would learn that he is, once again, making a humiliating spectacle of himself and doing nothing except further proving his defects as a former candidate.

His imaginary tale about Dr. Rudman should be considered as worthless as the rest of his words and actions.

His ongoing attempts to present himself as having some sort of informed opinion about the local economy -- instead of a pathetic twice-failed candidate who insults honest, taxpaying voters with his continues disgraceful behavior -- will follow the well-known pattern for him: They will fail.
