To the Editor:
I want to share my experience and discuss my support for Brigham Health’s acquisition of Care New England.
After feeling dizzy and experiencing chest pain, a cardiac catheterization at Kent Hospital revealed five blockages, requiring bypass surgery. I could go to another hospital here in Rhode Island, or to Brigham and Women’s in Boston. Aware of the affiliation between Kent and Brigham, I chose Boston. After successful surgery, I was fortunate to receive my follow-up care at Kent. This connection is what saved my life. The care at both hospitals was exceptional, and it was a huge convenience for me and my family to keep my follow-up care close to home.
It may be the opinion of one woman, but I view this acquisition as extremely beneficial. More collaboration will bring top doctors to Rhode Island and improve care through better research, diagnosis and treatment of complicated cases like mine.
