Moses leads Hawks at N.E. meet


Three Bishop Hendricken standouts brought home medals from the New England Indoor Track championship held Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston.

Lee Moses was the top performer for the Hawks – and one of the top Rhode Island finishers – thanks to his second-place performance in the long jump. Moses had a best leap of 22 feet, six inches, just off his state championship mark. Andrew Bolze of Hingham, Mass., won the title with a jump of 23-07. Moses also finished 13th in the 55-meter dash preliminaries.

Hawks senior Colin Tierney took fifth place in the two-mile run, finishing in nine minutes, 15.61 seconds. Alex Cerbo took sixth in the shot put with a throw of 51 feet, 10.75 inches.

Also for the Hawks, Jared Boulanger took 29th in the 300, Michael Potter finished 14th in the two-mile run and two relay teams finished in the top 15. The 4x400 team of Ian MacLeod, Power Kanga, Chris Cambio and Andrew Grady finished 11th, while the 4x800 team of Boulanger, Avery Ingegneri, Matt Constant and Grant Gauthier took 14th. Ben Murphy added a 14th-place finish in the high jump.

Several Warwick competitors took part on the girls’ side, with Toll Gate’s Erika Pena recording the top performance. She finished 13th in the preliminaries of the 55-meter hurdles. Pena also ran with Heather Allstrom, Jess Cawley and Nora Hall on an 18th-place 4x400 relay team. Ashley Chin finished 21st in the 55-meter dash for the Titans.

For Pilgrim, Rebecca O’Donnell took 14th and Melanie Brunelle finished 21st in the long jump. Danika Wayss finished 19th in the one-mile run. The relay team of O’Donnell, Madison Stanley, Molly Lynch and Nicole Morales took 16th in the 4x200.

La Salle distance runner Jack Salisbury and Classical’s Maddy Berkson were the top Rhode Island finishers at the meet. Salisbury won the one-mile run in 4:17.50 and Berkson set a meet record in winning the 1,000 in 2:49.29. Barrington’s 4x800 relay team also won a first-place medal.
