Music celebrates season at St. William’s Advent concert

On Saturday night, Dec. 7, the 7th annual St. William’s Advent music concert was held. Approximately 100 guests enjoyed the music and the opportunity to get into the holiday spirit.

“Advent is marked by a spirit of expectation, of anticipation, of preparation, of longing, of hope. The concert music set this tone perfectly,” said Willough Strauss, member of the Choir and parish secretary.

The Rhode Island College Chamber Singers performed under the direction of conductor Teresa Coffman, and they are composed of Willow Anderson, David Brochu, Ryan Green, Geoffrey Keitel, Christopher Laureano, Victoria McComb, Marykatherine McCutcheon, Zachary McMahon, Stephanie Tierno and Helena Widmann.

The St. Williams choir accompanied them under the direction of conductor Christopher Caramello. They are composed of Marissa DiBiase, Judith McDonald, Mary Lee Newman, Rita Peiczarek, Paul Strauss, Kyle Jameson, Joseph Miranda, Millssa Paige, Marie Pettis and Willough Strauss.

“The night was hosted by St. William’s and Father Frank Salmani. After the concert, a reception was held for all the guests. We hold this event every year, and we welcome and invite everyone to advent, to enjoy the feeling of peacefulness of the season for a little while,” said social committee chairperson Joanne Spaziano. Father Salmani brought his RIC connections with him when he joined the parish seven years ago.

The two groups performed 14 songs for the concert ranging from “Run to the Manger,” an African-American spiritual to “Past Three a Clock,” an English carol and, of course the traditional “O Come All Ye Faithful” and “Joy to the World.”
