My Epilepsy Family Support Group to meet at Kent Hospital

Beginning this month, The Matty Fund® is bringing its Discovering My Epilepsy ® Family Support Group to three new locations in Rhode Island.

Discovering My Epilepsy is a support group for children and families living with epilepsy. Meetings are designed to offer a safe and welcoming environment that allows families to help one another understand the many life challenges associated with epilepsy. Meetings will be held in Warwick, in the Doctor’s Auditorium at Kent Hospital, at the Lonsdale Elementary School in Lincoln, and at The Matty Fund’s Epilepsy Resource Center in Wakefield. Each location has its own group facilitator(s) who will provide children and adult attendees with the opportunity to meet new friends and build a support network for children with epilepsy, their siblings, and parents or caregivers.

Also new this year, select meetings will include art and music therapy. Warwick meetings are scheduled for the third Tuesday of each month. The Lincoln and Wakefield groups will meet (on alternating months, starting in Lincoln on Sept. 5) on the first Wednesday of each month. The meeting schedule runs from September through June from 6 to 8 p.m.

RSVP to The Matty Fund is requested at least 24 hours in advance and can be done by phone at 789-7330 or via email: More information and a complete schedule of meeting dates can be found on the Matty Fund website: (click on the “Resources” drop down menu and then on “Discovering My Epilepsy Support Group”).

The Matty Fund is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded by Richard and Debra Siravo in memory of their 5-year-old son Matthew, who passed away following a prolonged seizure on Mother’s Day in 2003. The Matty Fund and its Epilepsy Resource Center is dedicated to providing support and resources to children diagnosed with epilepsy and their families.

In addition to Discovering My Epilepsy, Matty Fund programs include, The Matthew Siravo Memorial College Scholarship, Camp Matty therapeutic horseback riding summer day camp, the Matty Hatty epilepsy awareness program for children in elementary and pre-school, family and professional educational workshops, and The Matthew Siravo Memorial Lectureship.
