When a large cylindrical object washed up on the shores of Conimicut last Friday, the immediate assumption was that it was an oil tank. The fear was that it might be spewing oil into Narragansett Bay and the city immediately notified the Department of Environmental Management. Upon investigation, the object turned out to be made of rubber and is believed to be a fender off a tug or freighter. The Department of Public Works removed the object to ensure it didn’t wash out into the bay and pose a hazard to vessels. While it remained on the beach, however, it was an object of curiosity to both man and dog. Checking it out are John and Ann Rose of Weybridge, Vermont, who were visiting their son and daughter in-law in Warwick Friday and out for a walk with the dogs. (Warwick Beacon photo)
