Navigant out at regional

After eliminating both New England Frozen Lemonade/Shields Post 43 and Senerchia Post 74 on consecutive days to win the state tournament, the Navigant Credit Union – Fairmount Post 85 American Legion baseball team traveled to the Northeast Regional over the weekend and came away with mixed results.

Playing in Old Orchard Beach, Maine against other state champions from around the region, Navigant – which is based out of Woonsocket – opened up play with a 4-1 loss to Portland, Maine on Thursday to fall into the losers’ bracket.

The next day, it rallied to defeat Essex, Vt. 5-3 to stay alive. But on Saturday, Navigant dropped a 4-2 contest to Hyannis, Mass., ending its summer.

The championship game was scheduled for Monday between Hyannis and Milford, Conn. The results were unavailable at press time.
