NEIT, Fiat Chrysler establish performance training center

New England Institute of Technology in cooperation with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, has established a Performance Training Center at NEIT’s Access Road campus in Warwick.

In collaboration with the FCA Performance Institute, NEIT instructors will receive FCA-specific training relating to the service and maintenance of FCA vehicles. In turn, NEIT faculty will instruct FCA dealer technicians employed throughout the FCA distributor network.

“We are pleased to be selected by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles to provide specialized training to their incumbent dealer technicians. In addition, students enrolled in New England Tech’s Automotive Technology degree programs also benefit from our relationship with FCA since we can incorporate emerging technology into our curriculum,” Steven H. Kitchin, Vice President of Corporate Education and Training at New England Institute of Technology (NEIT) for the Center of Technology and Industry said in a statement.

Current Fiat Chrysler classes focus on the Fundamentals of gas engines as well as noise, vibration and harshness training. Future plans include the enhanced training of NEIT instructors so that they can deliver additional FCA programs to dealer technicians. These training programs benefit FCA dealers since New England Tech instructors help expedite the training process of new-hire technicians through important phases of their original equipment manufacturer (OEM) training.

“We are delighted that New England Institute of Technology has agreed to join us in our efforts to increase the number of automotive instructors who will ultimately train new and existing service technicians in our U.S. dealership network,” said John Fox, Director of the FCA Performance Institute. “Enlisting the help of NEIT is yet another step that Fiat Chrysler is taking to combat the industry shortage of trained service technicians.”

In 2015, New England Tech was also chosen by FCA to offer NEIT students its Mopar Career Automotive Program (CAP) developed by the FCA Performance Institute. The CAP program includes a combination of 35 online modules combined with classroom training. This optional self-paced program is available to Automotive Technology students enrolled in select two-year degree programs across the country. Students who successfully complete the Mopar CAP training will be certified Mopar Level 1 Technicians. This certification will provide NEIT graduates with the credentials needed for advanced standing in the hiring process at FCA dealerships.
