Local children to appear in 'The Nutcracker' at PPAC

This December, seven talented local children will take part in a hugely popular Rhode Island holiday tradition. These young dancers will perform with Rhode Island’s premier classical ballet company, Festival Ballet Providence (FBP), in the annual production of “The Nutcracker” Dec. 13-15 at the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC), 220 Weybosset Street, Providence. The Warwick residents will be part of a cast of more than 100 children performing roles including Angel, Candy Doll, Mouse, Party Child, Soldier, Sugar Plum Fairy Attendant, and Trepak Corps.

Following an open audition in September, the children earned highly coveted roles in the elaborate professional production, which FBP has performed at PPAC since 1978. The children’s cast comprises over one hundred children from 33 towns across Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Ranging in ages from 7 to 18, the children chosen to perform in The Nutcracker represent a wide range of aspiring young dancers, from children in their first performing experience to advanced students anticipating a career in professional ballet. They may be young but make no mistake – they are all business when it comes to dance.

Putting in countless hours every week at their local dance studios (a wide majority of the children train at Festival Ballet Providence School), each child aspires to make dance part of their lives when they grow up. The strenuous technique and beautiful artistry honed through dance education instill confidence and character in these young children. Plus, the opportunity to perform for a packed house in the lavish setting of PPAC, while rubbing elbows with FBP’s professional company backstage, makes this experience one that these local children won’t soon forget.

Cranston residents participating in The Nutcracker at PPAC are Sophia Cicerone, Aviana Costantino, Grace Donabella- Pedlow, Celine Gautreaux, Mikayla Imondi, Tristan Kinloch, William Kinloch and Isobel Lewis.

Warwick residents participating in The Nutcracker at PPAC are Gemma Carvalho, Ciarra Lavendar, Amber Lopes, Layla Sammour-Parsons, Sophia SanGiovanni, Paiten Tate and Ava Tyszkowski.
