Old-Fashioned Christmas at Hearthside House

Posted by HearthsideHouse

Visions of Christmas’ past and the nostalgic feel of a cozy home fills Lincoln’s Hearthside House Museum during the holiday season. With gaily appointed Christmas trees, festively decorated mantels, and garlands adorning the staircases and doorways, this 200-year old mansion offers a journey back to “An Old-Fashioned Christmas.”

Stunning decorations accented by twinkling lights and dozens of elaborately decorated trees are displayed throughout three floors of the house to bring the joy of the season to life for guests of all ages. From being welcomed by the cozy fire to the exquisite décor throughout the house, Hearthside offers the perfect setting for celebrating this favorite time of year.

Self-guided tours through the house allow guests the opportunity to enjoy the dazzling beauty at a leisurely pace. The dining room table will be set for an elegant Christmas dinner. In the Colonial kitchen, holiday cheer is served up with a yuletide treat of cookies and hot cider. Old-fashioned toys and dolls along with bright paper packages sit under the trees as they would have been at the turn of the century. Locally-made glass ornaments by the former Coby Company of Lonsdale will bring back childhood memories from those growing up here in the 1940s and ‘50s. Volunteer guides will be dressed in festive period attire to welcome holiday guests.

Santa will be waiting for visits from young and old at all the openings prior to Christmas, dressed up in his Victorian suit. Shopping for a unique gift in the Gift Shop is an ideal way to complete a memorable visit to Hearthside.

There are special features at each December opening. As a kick off to the holiday season, families are invited to visit on Sunday, December 3rd between 2-6 p.m. when Hearthside will offer family photos by the fireplace and Christmas tree taken by a professional photographer for a $10 donation. A special feature for kids will be the reading of the holiday story, Santa Mouse, throughout the day and visits with Santa.

On Saturday, December 9th between 4-7 p.m., the ambience of candlelight and the soft sounds of the harp playing seasonal music will be featured.

On Sunday, December 10th between 2-6 p.m. enjoy holiday music performed on the antique piano.

Located at 677 Great Road, Lincoln, Hearthside is decorated and managed by the Friends of Hearthside, an all-volunteer organization that has worked to preserve the Town-owned historic house and other nearby properties along Great Road. Funds raised through the tours and events support their efforts to keep history alive. For more information, www.hearthsidehouse.org.
