Our priorities

To the Editor:

Many thanks to the Beacon, and to Ethan Hartley, for the fine coverage of the Warwick City Council (Warwick School Committee back-and-forth).

Mr. Hartley brings some clarity to a confusing array of barbs and darts, proposals and counter-proposals.

This is local journalism at its best. And local journalism is journalism at its best, I think, because we locals can respond and have an immediate effect.

It has been very interesting that school sports have played such a pivotal role in the negotiations. Students, parents and the mayor want the sports, and so do I. Could computer science classes or AP history classes have played such a role? What does this say about our priorities?

The rhetorical question is certainly answered by comparing the net worth of a professional football player with that of a professional history teacher. The difference in magnitude is telling. We are lost.
