The Bishop Hendricken theater program will present “Our Town” from Friday, March 31st to Sunday, April 2nd.  Tickets can be bought online for $15 at Hendricken.com or by calling the box office at (401)739-3450, which is open from 9 to 11 a.m. All ticket sales are final, there are no refunds. Tickets may also be ordered in person two hours before each performance, but this is not advised since most shows are already sold out by then.

“Our Town,” written by American playwright, Thornton Wilder in 1938, and first performed at McCarter Theatre in Princeton, New Jersey, follows the story of the Webb and Gibbs families through three acts: “Daily Life”, “Love and Marriage” and “Death and Eternity” as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually die. It takes place in the fictional town of Grover’s Corners between 1901 and 1913 through the everyday lives of its citizens.

“Our Town” went on to success on Broadway, and won the Pulitzer Prize for drama. It remains popular today with frequent revivals. Playwright, Edward Albee has praised it as, “The greatest American play ever written.”

Bishop Hendricken’s drama program has flourished since its beginnings in the summer of 1999. They have performed a variety of well-known musicals and plays, as well as some student originals. “Our Town” is to be the latest in a nearly 20-year sequence of noteworthy productions.
