Panera ‘Pasta for Pasta’ drive March 25 to aid Westbay Marketplace

A “Pasta for Pasta Drive” at Panera Bread and its bakery-café at 1000 Bald Hill Road will benefit its Day-End Dough-Nation partner, Westbay Marketplace.

The drive will take place Monday, March 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. The first 100 customers who bring in a box of pasta to Panera Warwick will receive a “Mystery Gift Card” in an amount up to and including $100, as well as enjoy free samples of Panera’s newest menu introduction: Tortellini Alfredo, Pesto Sacchettini and Penne Bolognese pasta dishes. Attendees can also participate in the Rhode Island Food Bank’s Paper Plate Campaign, which asks people to write a brief thought about the issue of hunger on a paper plate. The plates have been displayed at the Food Bank and on Facebook and have started a statewide conversation about hunger in Rhode Island.

Westbay Marketplace, located at 211 Buttonwoods Avenue, is open weekdays 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is a food distribution program of the Westbay Community Action Program network of social services, which serves the families of Kent County. The Marketplace, a Rhode Island Community Food Bank (Feeding America) member agency, is funded through grants and community donations and distributes food to a growing list of more than 1,000 families per month.

As part of Panera’s Day-End program, the Marketplace picks up Panera Warwick’s leftover bread, bagels and pastries Monday through Friday night and distributes them to those in need in the community.

Assisting with the Pasta For Pasta event are sisters Justine and Ashley Bolarinho, Panera Warwick’s Living Consciously Captains. They are responsible for maintaining food-packaging guidelines for its Day-End partners and helping to organize volunteer events and food drives.

All 25 bakery-cafes owned and operated by top Panera franchisee, the Howley Bread Group based in Cumberland, participate in the Day-End Dough-Nation Program.
