Pedestrian struck on Post Road in stable condition

The medical condition of a North Kingstown woman who was struck by a car on Post Road last Thursday was upgraded to stable on Friday. The woman was transported to Rhode Island Hospital around 1 p.m. in critical condition after being struck crossing the street near 2800 Post Rd. The Traffic Division Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident. Lt. Michael L. Gilbert of the Traffic Division of the Warwick Police identified Allan A. Windle, 62, of Warwick as the driver of the car and the woman as Giselle Mahoney, 26, of North Kingstown. Gilbert said Mahoney was within a marked crosswalk at the time.

“There appeared to be no excessive speed and certainly no alcohol involved,” said Gilbert. “He said he simply didn’t see her until it was too late.”

Investigators are continuing to interview involved parties and any possible witnesses. Gilbert said the initial investigation has disclosed that “the vehicle was operating southbound on Post Road and Mahoney was crossing in a westerly direction within a marked cross walk at the intersection of Post Road and Natick Avenue. At this time, no criminal charges will be brought against Windle but he was cited for failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian within a cross walk.

Any person with information related to the accident is requested to contact the Warwick Police Department Traffic Division at 468-4343.
