Philip A. Bessette
Philip A. Bessette, 91, passed away at home on December 27, 2012. He was the husband of the late Gertrude (Sylvestre) Bessette.
Born in Pawtucket on June 4, 1921, he was the son of the late Alfred J. Bessette, Sr. and Mary (Cavanagh) Bessette. He was a graduate of St. Raphael Academy and Bryant College. Phil was a Navy veteran of World War II and a career employee of the United States Navy Department at Quonset Point, Davisville and Newport Naval bases. He was a resident of Warwick for 55 years before moving to North Kingstown in 2005. Phil was one of the founding parishioners of St. Rose of Lima Church in Warwick.
He is survived by his son, Denis Bessette of Cumberland, daughters, Judith Mackenzie of Brockton, Massachusetts, Phyllis Keenan of Barrington, Emilie Anderson of North Kingstown; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Virginia Fortin, John, Gilbert and Paul Bessette and the late William and Alfred Bessette, Jr.
His funeral will be held Monday, December 31 at 10 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Clement Church, 111 Long Street, Warwick at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in Precious Blood Cemetery, Woonsocket.
