Pilgrim closes out season with loss to 'Canes


The Pilgrim girls’ tennis team finished up its season on Friday afternoon at home against Warwick Vets with a 7-0 loss. The Pats finished the year at 4-10, in sixth place in Division III-West. They did not qualify for the playoffs.

At No. 1 singles, Julietta Ayriyan fell to Lauren Smith, while Stephanie Sweet fell to Jamie Yates at No. 2, Rosario Romare fell to Olivia Roy at No. 3 and Courtney Smith lost to Tauri Sequeria at No. 4.

In doubles, Guiliana Melo and Jenn Salerno defeated Ashley Hagar and Paige Dion at No. 1, Joelle Nelson and Alison Chace defeated Abby McCormick and Casey Adams at No. 2 and Amanda Reid and Kiah Marcotte beat Sopo Tchkoidze and Erin Isherwood at No. 3.

Vets finished the regular season at 7-7 and tied for fourth place in D-III West with Cranston East. The ’Canes won the tiebreaker with the ’Bolts and are advancing to the postseason. The playoffs are set to begin today, with Vets likely taking on Mt. Hope.
