Players Softball Club qualifies for nationals
The Players Softball Club played well all the way through and came out on top in the Dan Perry Memorial Tournament this past weekend at City Park.
Players, which plays its home games out of Clegg Field, went 6-0, beating J.H.W. Catering for the championship on Saturday. By winning the tournament, Players qualified for the NSA national championships in October, which are held in Las Vegas.
Making the feat more impressive was how they actually got there. In the six games that they played, Players allowed only eight runs. In the semifinals, pitcher Pat Coupe tossed a rare perfect game, defeating Action Auto Parts.
The tournament was also for a good cause, as it raised over $5,000 for the Lymphoma and Leukemia society.
