Plenty of moustaches
When English teacher and advisor/director of the Pilgrim Players Drama Club Richard Denningham put out the casting call for the Gershwin musical comedy “Crazy for You,” more girls than boys responded. But that didn’t stop him when filling what should be male roles, such as cowboys. Pants and moustaches did the trick, although during Tuesday’s rehearsal some moustaches refused to stay stuck in place. That won’t stop the show that opens Friday at 7 p.m. at Pilgrim with performances Saturday at the same time and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 at the door for adults and $5 for students, seniors and children under 10. Special guests are appearing for each of the performances with band director Christopher Pratt on Friday, acting Principal Marie Cote on Saturday and English teacher Ian Smith on Sunday. In shots here, leads Eddie Lang as Bobby Child and Stephanie Johnson as Polly Baker share an endearing moment and song; Greg Goodinson as Bela Zangler and Liz Bierenday as Tess find the spotlight and Justine Pollard, Ariana Greco and Savannah Smith are a cowboy [actually, girl] trio. And yes, plenty of girls turned out for the chorus line. Other leads in the show are Lucy Cavanagh as Irene and Rob Stocker as Lank Hawkins.
