DRUG DISTRIBUTION

Jason Wilcox, 37, of 73 Maplewood Avenue Apt. #2 in Cranston, was arrested on May 11 at approximately 4:49 p.m. on a felony charge of Manufacture, Possession, Delivery of Cocaine.

Officer Ali Jaafar was on patrol on Elmwood Avenue when he saw a car make an abrupt turn onto Pawtuxet Avenue without using its turn signal, and followed it until he pulled the driver over for not using its turn signal again while entering an Enterprise Rent-A-Car. The car was found to be rented.

The officer identified the driver as Wilcox and found that he was driving on a suspended license, which would be his third offense for that. In Wilcox’s front console was a stack of EBT and gift cards as well as three cell phones, which Wilcox said he had for his numerous relationships with women.

During the officer’s questioning of Wilcox, about where he was going and why his car’s windows were tinted, Wilcox appeared to be uncomfortable and stuttered. He had his daughter in the back seat, and said that he was on his way to buy her a bicycle.

The officer, along with backup, decided to search the vehicle before it would be towed due to Wilcox’s suspended license. There was a small bottle of marijuana, despite Wilcox saying there was nothing illegal in the car.

The officers did an in-depth search and found a built-in cup holder in the center console that had a white, powdery substance as well as a granular substance, bagged in separate baggies, and two pay-as-you-go phones and a portable weight scale.

A canine officer was called to the scene while Wilcox was placed into custody in the back of Officer Jaafar’s car. In Wilcox’s pocket was $1,300 in cash, along with another cell phone.

DCYF was informed of the situation regarding Wilcox’s daughter, and her mother was called to pick her up.

Wilcox was transported to police headquarters.

During the toxicology tests, it was found that he had 44.7 grams of cocaine and 54.7 grams of crack cocaine, as well as another bag of 2.5 grams of cocaine. All of the drugs, cards, cell phones, and cash were taken into property evidence and Wilcox was held to appear for bail.
