The driver was later identified as Albert Derobbio, 59, of 10 Doylston Dr. in Cranston. Derobbio told the officer he was trying to get to his cousin’s bar, but it was closed, and apologized for the way he was driving. He had an active registration card and license on him.

The officer observed Derobbio to have a distinct alcoholic odor coming from his car, and red, bloodshot, and watery eyes. He said he had “a few” alcoholic beverages that night and when the officer asked him to conduct a series of field sobriety tests he agreed and said “I’m not gonna lie, I’ve had a few.”

During the tests, Derobbio indicated nearly all clues indicating impairment. He was brought to police headquarters, where he wouldn’t take a B.A.C. test but also wouldn’t officially refuse it. He was charged with DUI 1st Offense – B.A.C. Unknown with a court date summons of June 19. He was also issued for Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test and various roadway violations. He was then released to the care of a sober adult.
