DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

On Sept. 16 at approximately 1:58 a.m. Sergeant Matthew Barlow conducted a traffic stop for a pick-up truck that was speeding on Post Rd. in the area of South Atlantic Ave.

The truck was eventually stopped on Colsonian Dr., where Sergeant John Curley, who had been on a detail in the area, assisted with the driver, who was identified as Joshua Robinson, 28, of 32 Hope Rd. in Cranston.

Curley detected a strong alcoholic odor coming from Robinson’s breath and observed his eyes to be bloodshot and speech slurred. Robinson told him he had had a couple drinks that night. He was asked to submit to a series of field sobriety tests, to which he complied.

During the tests, Robinson displayed nearly all clues indicating impairment. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and transported to the Warwick police station.

At the station, Robinson refused to take a chemical B.A.C. test. Robinson was charged with Driving Under the Influence - B.A.C. Unknown, as well as Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test. He was then release to a sober adult with court summons.

LARCENY

On Sept. 16 at approximately 5:00 p.m. Officer James Wenneman responded to the Dickerson Brothers Marina on Arnold’s Neck Dr. for the report of a stolen engine.

The reporting party said that his Evinrude engine, valued at approximately $3,000, was on the dingy on the first dock when he last saw it the day before around 5:00 p.m.

He said he believed the marina to have video surveillance but no one was there at the time to access it. There were no witnesses who had seen anything happen and no suspect information was provided. There was nothing further at the time.

On Sept. 16 at approximately 10:23 a.m. Officer Walter Larson responded to the report of larceny from a motor vehicle at the Homewood Suites on International Way.

The reporting party said that he had parked his car in the parking lot around 12:45 a.m. the night before and when he came out in the morning two of his tires/rims had been taken from the car.

The 5 bolt rims and two tires were valued at approximately $600. Detectives were called to respond as the officer believed there to be possible suspect fingerprints on the car.

POSSESSION

On Sept. 15 at approximately 3:24 p.m. Officer Aaron Steere pulled over a car driving on Rte. 295 because he believed it was attempting to pace his speed and had tinted windows. He followed the car without his lights on until eventually he pulled it over on I-95 after he clocked it speeding.

The driver, later identified as Jason Ambrose, 30, of 20 Hansborough St. in Dorchester, Mass. told the officer he and his child and the mother of the child were traveling to the Classic Motor-Inn in West Greenwich for a family night out, though the officer doubted this because that Inn had been known for criminal activity.

While Ambrose reached to get his license, the officer saw what he thought to be a bag of marijuana in the glove box.

Upon checking Ambrose in the system, he found him to have a lengthy criminal history including forgery, possession of controlled substance, assault and battery on a police officer, possession with intent to distribute, rape, and destruction of property.

After other officers came to assist, Ambrose was patted down and found to have a folding knife and a bag of marijuana on him. A search of the vehicle yielded a few more bags of marijuana and another, larger knife. The marijuana was seized and Ambrose was charged with Possession of Marijuana, 1 Oz. or Less, as well as Speeding, and given court summons for both.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

On Sept. 15 at approximately 1:06 p.m. Officer David Boardman responded to the parking lot of the Hobby Lobby on Bald Hill Road for the report of malicious property damage.

The reporting party said she had parked her car an hour earlier and when she came back out there were profanities scratched onto the rear trunk door of her car.

The officer saw the words and thought they were carved by a key. There was no video surveillance footage of the incident, but pictures of the car were taken in case suspect information was found.

SHOPLIFTING

On Sept. 13 at approximately 7:47 p.m. Officer Ben Bratko responded to the report of a shoplifter who had stolen merchandise from the Macy’s at the Warwick Mall and fled on foot toward Not Your Average Joe’s.

Another officer had apprehended the suspect, later identified as Luke Anastas, 25, of 189 River St. in Woonsocket.

The reporting party said that Anastas had taken a $55 pair of gray Adidas sweatpants from the Macy’s without paying and walked out.

Anastas returned the sweatpants and was taken to police headquarters, where he was charged with Shoplifting – Misdemeanor as well as Habitual Offender – Shoplifting, due to previous shoplifting convictions.

On Sept. 15 at approximately 4:19 p.m. Officer Thomas Duncan responded to the J.C. Penney at the Warwick Mall for the report of a shoplifter in custody.

The loss prevention associate said that a male, later identified as Panny Sok, 36, of 17 Van Buren St. in Warwick, had selected a number of perfumes and colognes and went into a fitting room to conceal them, then later left the store without paying for any merchandise.

The items he took were all recovered and included clothing as well. The total value of the merchandise recovered was $301.50.

Sok was taken to police headquarters, where he was charged with one count of Shoplifting – Misdemeanor (1st Offense) and released with a court summons.

STOLEN VEHICLE

On Sept. 10 at approximately 7:05 a.m. Officer Ryan Shibley responded to a residence on Errol St. for the report of a stolen motorcycle.

The reporting party said that he had parked his motorcycle, a Honda CRF 250L valued at $5,000, in his driveway. When he woke up, it was gone.

The victim said he didn’t know why someone would take it and gave a thorough description of the bicycle for police to follow up on. He also said a neighbor may have video surveillance but he hadn’t had a chance to speak with them yet.

He was given a stolen vehicle statement form to fill out and bring to police at a later time, as he had to leave for work. The case was forwarded to detectives for a follow up.
