At the scene, the manager on duty at the store told Holleran that a review of security camera footage revealed that a man had entered the store just after 7:30 p.m., selected a 1.75-liter bottle of grape Smirnoff vodka valued at $18.49, concealed the bottle in a white paper bag and then exited the store without making any attempt to pay.
Based on a review of security footage and a check of Division of Motor Vehicles photo records, a suspect was identified and a warrant was issued on a charge of shoplifting.

The suspect is said to have concealed the items in her purse before leaving the fitting room and exiting the store without making any attempt to pay. Justin was dumb, He was a passenger in a car that ran out of gas, There was no reason to ID he should have refused.

He was not suspected of a crime or ready to commit crime!!!!! Once again there is no need to ID if you did not commit a crime or was suspected of a crime!!! Justin rights were violated!!!!

    scot63,

Warwick Police check the identification of every person they contact (it's also a standard for accredited departments like WPD), and this is a perfect example of WHY.

Failure to identify yourself is also a consideration for arrest in RI; in many cases, not providing an ID is considered suspicious behavior in and of itself (for example, having and evading a warrant for one's arrest)...Catch-22. An individual can be "temporarily" detained, which MAY last until you identify yourself- the only question is how much free time you have on your hands.

There's an easy way and a hard way, but it's always MY way.

It sounds like you prefer to have people with active warrants walking your city streets, potentially being a threat to other citizens, you and/or your loved ones...is there something fundamentally wrong with you? Are you suggesting that police should wait until a crime has been committed, or is ABOUT to be? Do you believe that they're psychic, as well?
