Presidential scholar candidates
Bay View Academy seniors Samantha Paul of Pawtucket (left) and Yee Jung Kim of Warwick have been selected as candidates for the United States Presidential Scholars Program. The United States Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 to recognize and honor some of the country's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. Each year, approximately 3,000 candidates are identified for their academic achievement as demonstrated on scoring exceptionally well on the SAT or the ACT. All candidates must complete and submit a comprehensive application, which includes essays, self-assessments, secondary school reports and transcripts. After a review of applications, 500 candidates will be named semi-finalists and forwarded to the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars. At that time, the Commission selects up to 121 Academic Scholars.
