Pro Scout Development clinics set to start at Bomb Squad Baseball

Several of the Northeast Region’s top professional scouts will be on hand Sunday to kick off the Pro Scout Development Clinics at the Bomb Squad Baseball Company in South County.

Northeast Area Scouts’ Jim Bretz of the San Diego Padres, Matt Sherman of the Chicago Cubs and Matt Hyde of the New York Yankees will team up with Northeast Scouting Supervisor Ray Fagnant of the Boston Red Sox to run the Pro Scout Development Clinics at the Bomb Squad. The five-week instructional sessions begin on Sunday, November 20. Enrollment is limited.

“We will cover every nook and cranny of hitting to the mental side of the game,” said Bretz. “We are going to start from ground zero and give as much instruction and information as we can each and every week and use the same techniques we use at the big league level.”

Participating in the Pro Scout Development Clinic during the winter months provides players with an advantage when their season begins in the spring.

“This is the offseason. The time to start thinking about baseball is now. This is when players should be working on their game,” said Bretz. “This is where we fix problems, eliminate bad habits and refine skills. Kids that work out indoors in the offseason will have a jump on their season when it starts in the spring. ”

Bretz is also a staff member of the Area Code Games, the most prestigious high school tournament in the country. Players require a recommendation by a pro scout in order to receive an invitation to participate in the Area Code Games.

Players attending the Pro Scout Development Clinic at the Bomb Squad will have the opportunity to be seen by Bretz and other members of the Area Code Games staff.

“If you can make an impression on us, you will probably get invited to the tryout,” said Bretz.

Players participating in the Pro Scout Development Clinics will be divided into age groups. Clinics will be held for 13-15 year-olds from 3-4:30 p.m. Players 15-17 year-sold will follow, from 4:30-6 p.m.

There will be a second five-week session beginning in January.

Space for both sessions is limited. To register for the Pro Scout Development Clinics or for more information, call 401-284-0411.

The Bomb Squad Baseball Company, the area’s largest indoor baseball facility, opened its doors just over a month ago. Located in the Palisades Mill Complex Wakefield, RI, the 13,000 square foot facility is the most expansive indoor playground for baseball and softball in the region.
